Ubuntu - Linux....(IT'S FREE)
We love this operating system so far. Fast little
hang ups, not so great for downloaded email, working on solutions
for that.Testing for 9 months
Google Chrome browser
-This is by far
the best browser we have used. FAST uses little resources and is
safe.
Open Office (like Microsoft Office
only its free).
This is a
good substitute for your word processing, graphics, spreadsheet etc.
and it is free...Only thing so far is it is very boggy.
Think you have malware? #1 thing to do, run malware program,
and ccleaner. (can't run those call a tech) #2 With
popups, do not click on them or closes them with the X. (Alt-f4 and
call tech) #3 Do not run your computer, turn it off and
call a tech.
Now recommending
ccleaner
very quick and removes all
temporary files and cleans out recycle bin and invalid registry keys.
We have been testing a new Malware program, this one is
FREE
Malwarebyte we will keep you posted. Latest ran
on machine with only 128 m memory. Removed all the malware.
This program has proven itself. No
longer hangs on any of the computers we use it on.
Antivirus programs
The Best so far
Avast
and its FREE, uses very little resources, catches all virus and some
malware. Been testing for a year now. We have it on all
our home computers.
McAfee - Starting to slow down (this program is catching up
to Norton as far as speed goes, catches all virus to date. Catches some spyware but I would not rely on it. The suite
is horrible, it takes over your machine.
Norton (not recommended) removes most all virus's but is incredible slow, it's spam and spyware protection does
not work very well at all. Uses way to much resources on your machine.
The suite does not work well either, however, some of the features with System
Works are by far the best tools on the market.
Heard
the new version is slim and fast...Will be testing soon.
Free Version of Spyware Doctor Antivirus Does
the job well, however, if you do not have your machine on at all
time or when you schedule scans or updates it hangs and throws
errors.. Software is a memory hog.
Malwarebyte
- by far the best and easiest software to use to remove malware.
Beware however, it does not remove all. If you keep this
program up to date and run once a week, it will remove about 80% of
all malware.
I have owned my Dell computer for 4 years. Myself and my kids use it
regularly everyday. Recently my computer picked up some type of nasty
virus/spyware/malware. I could not access the Internet. I attempted to try
and repair the computer on my own, with what little knowledge I have and
what friends suggested. No luck!
I than asked my one friend if he knew of anyone quality computer technician
that was local. He gave me Sherri's phone number, telling me over and over
again what a great job Sherri did for his business computer system.
I called Sherri on a Saturday evening, Sherri called me back that Sunday
morning. Sherri and I agreed that I would drop the computer off at her home,
she would do her best to figure out the problems. Sherri also gave me a very
reasonable estimate of costs, before I dropped off the computer.
I gave the computer to Sherri Monday morning, Tuesday morning my phone rang,
Sherri said my computer was fixed and ready to go. Costs were exactly as she
had told me. Sherri also spent much extra time, giving me suggestions and
ideas how to prevent this problem in the future.
Once home, I hooked the computer back up, turned it on and my computer
booted right up, no problems. No configuration problems with my printer or
monitor. To my surprise Sherri also had added several great anti/virus
programs to help protect my computer and keep it clean.
Sherri was extremely professional, very knowledgeable and very quick. Her
estimated charge is what I paid. I was amazed how quick I had my computer
back home, up and running! Sherri also stated to feel free to call her
anytime, if I had any other problems down the road.
I would recommend Sherri to anyone that has computer problems, or needs
assistance in upgrading a home system.
I am very satisfied, I feel I got my money's worth and more!
